$1.5 Million in Stimulus Funds being Spent on Synchronizing Suburban Traffic Lights

  • Louisville, Kentucky is using $1.5 million in Stimulus funds to synchronize traffic lights on several of its surrounding suburban roads—the goal of which is to shorten the amount of time the city’s commuters spend sitting at each traffic light. As a result, American taxpayers will help subsidize the convenience of 60,000 suburban residents.
  • The project, which totals $7 million and will take two years to complete, will use local, state and federal funds. Democratic Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-03), praising the use of taxpayer dollars for the convenience of his constituents, said “This is another example of Federal funding from the Recovery Act making a difference right here in Louisville.”
  • Under the House Republican Stimulus Alternative, taxpayer funds would not be spent to synchronize suburban traffic lights. Instead, Republicans would have created twice as many jobs at half the cost. To learn how visit: http://republicanwhip.house.gov/Jobs/
