“Handing over billions to the IMF not only saddles young Americans with more debt, but could fund terrorist activity – a complete affront to our troops combating terrorism across the globe.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night, House and Senate Democrats reportedly agreed that the final FY 2010 War Supplemental would include Senate inserted language providing $108 billion in funding for the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The intent of war supplemental bills is to provide the resources needed by the men in women serving in the Armed Forces. The bill should not be used as vehicle to funnel billions of dollars to an international organization. Given the massive debt that Congress and the Administration continues to run up, this funding would have to be borrowed from other nations like China with taxpayers bearing the cost. In addition, some of the IMF member countries who could access this $108 billion are state sponsors of terror.
Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) gave the following statement on the matter today:
“There is absolutely no reason for the Democrat majority to complicate a bill intended to fund our troops by larding it up with over $108 billion in borrowed money for the IMF. Handing over billions to the IMF not only saddles young Americans with more debt, but could fund terrorist activity – a complete affront to our troops combating terrorism across the globe.
“We should not be having this discussion, IMF funding has no business being included in the War Supplemental and I hope that those Democrat leaders pushing for its inclusion take a moment to reconsider.”
