Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) today issued the following statement after the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced it would terminate ACORN’s participation in the agency’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program:

“ACORN has violated serious federal laws, and it is a victory for all taxpayers that the IRS has ended its association with this corrupt organization.

"I hope that President Obama joins our effort to ensure that the government ends all of its associations with the embattled organization, that not a single taxpayer dollar ends up in its coffers, and that the FBI thoroughly investigates the depth of the abhorrent and illegal activities of ACORN."

NOTE: Last week, House Republican Leader Boehner and Republican Whip Cantor sent a letter to the IRS asking that it sever all ties with ACORN. In addition, House Republicans sent a letter to President Obama requesting that he use his authority to end all funding to and break all ties with ACORN.
